The signing ceremony took place during the 30th anniversary of the opening of CAIEP's UK office.

In November, IET representatives attended a reception in London to mark the 30th anniversary of the opening of the China Association for International Exchange of Personnel's (CAIEP) UK office.

During the reception, IET Deputy President Peter Bonfield signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CAIEP. Both CAIEP and the IET have agreed to work together on the exchange of knowledge and technical expertise, professional development, recognition and events.

The Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CAIEP, Zhang Jianguo, who is also China's Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA), witnessed the signing ceremony and stressed during his keynote speech that exchange of science and technology personnel between China and Britain has entered a "golden era" with more than 40,000 British experts now working in China each year. These workers form a major part of the driving force behind China-Britain innovation.

The event also doubled as the UK launch of the 17th Conference of International Exchange of Professionals to be held on 14-15 April 2019 in Shenzhen. UK representatives will be guests of honour at the event.
