Another successful year for the IET at the International Broadcasting Convention.

The IET has once again been a familiar fixture at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC), with this year’s event in Amsterdam attracting over 50,000 people.

IET.tv was there to film a selection of keynote presentations, including one from recording artist and Intel director of creative innovation will.i.am.

The fourth volume of ‘The best of IET and IBC’, containing the printed versions of papers presented at IBC, alongside a selection of recent broadcast-related content from Electronics Letters, was launched by then IET president Dr Mike Short. Around 3,000 copies were distributed to conference delegates, press and trade show attendees.

The IET also supported the IBC Rising Stars initiative and was represented by the Multimedia Communications Network at a networking lunch launching the programme for 2012.

Sharing his thoughts on IBC with Member News, Martin Russ, immediate past chairman of the IET Multimedia Communications Network, said: “Twenty years ago at IBC I was in a caravan on the beach at Brighton showing leading-edge video technology. This year at IBC I was considerably older and the venue was bigger, but the leading edge was still as fresh and omnipresent as ever.

“Neither RAI nor IBC has the right letters to make the word multimedia, but somehow they manage to contain the whole of multimedia every year. IBC is a very rare gem: a conference and exhibition that is genuinely relevant and unmissable.

“The Multimedia Communications Network and IBC fit together so well that they must be married in a parallel universe. Every year, IBC casts a siren's call in my direction, and the experience has always been relevant, compelling and fascinating.”
