Dr Ziad Mouneimne BSc PhD CEng FIET

Electrical engineer, rail industry consultant, and IET Fellow, Dr Ziad Mouneimne, first joined the IET as a student member whilst an undergraduate at the University of Birmingham in 1977.

“I became a member to have access to the latest developments, both from publications and from attending lectures,” says Ziad. “And most importantly to meet fellow members to exchange notes and network.”

Since setting up his consultancy company in 1992, following a varied career in the rail and electrical industries, Ziad is exceptionally proud of the support he was able to give to his fellow engineers.

“Running my company successfully for 26 years is a key highlight of my career, but particularly working with young engineers and seeing them develop is an achievement I’m proud of.”

Now semi-retired and working freelance part-time, Ziad was able to use our IET Library services to assist in a recent project.

“In the past, I’ve used the physical Library services to search for publications and standards,” he says. “It was always a pleasure to visit Savoy Place and, being passionate about electrical engineering, to see on the way the statue of Michael Faraday.

However, on a recent challenging project, I needed a quick way of researching an esoteric subject: Measurement of grid impedance at 132 kV and above.

As the physical library was closed due to the Covid pandemic, I was able to use the research service with the help of the research librarian via email.

“It’s great to have a single source that could filter from the tens of millions of titles and pages out there. The research librarian was very good at understanding my needs.”
