IET comments on virtual parliament

Nick Coleman, Co-chair of the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Digital Panel, said: “It is essential that the engineering and technology community support the development and application of technology that will enable Parliament to continue to operate safely and securely during this unprecedented time.

“A digital parliament is novel in terms of engineering and addressing new ways of digital working, but we are confident that this is achievable with the right use of today’s technology.

“New protocols for managing debates and voting as well as connecting to home environments in ways that are secure and resilient will be key issues to be considered. The IET will be pleased to contribute expert advice in areas such as digital systems engineering, cyber security, and secure electronic voting, providing an independent expert voice and share our engineering, technology and cyber insights on the secure and effective establishment of a virtual Parliament.”
