The IET needs members to help introduce young people to the exciting world of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and raise awareness of engineering careers.
What would I do?
Schools liaison officers support opportunities for young people to learn about engineering. As part of the role you could:
- Support IET activity days;
- Promote IET educational resources;
- Endorse applications for project funding;
- Exhibit at careers or science fairs;
- Give careers presentations;
- Support competitions, after-school clubs and other schools events.
The amount of time volunteered is entirely up to you and how much time you wish to offer.
Support will be there for you from IET staff and experienced schools liaison volunteers, and training will be provided.
No experience or special qualifications are required. You should have good communication skills and an active interest in the development of young people of all ages and abilities.
Introducing young people to engineering is a rewarding experience, and can contribute valuable continuing professional development. If you're concerned about your employer supporting your involvement in this activity we may be able to help.
