The IET needs members to help introduce young people to the exciting world of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and raise awareness of engineering careers.
How can I help?
Working with schools, youth groups and other activities which support opportunities for young people to learn about engineering, you will use your expertise in engineering to inspire the next generation of engineers. As part of your role, on behalf of IET Education, in person and virtually, both pre-planned and as requested, you could:
- Support local schools, youth clubs and relevant activities
- Attend careers talks and science fairs, including providing careers presentations
- Be involved with Partnership events, FIRST LEGO League and Faraday Challenge Days
You should have good communication skills, an active interest in the development of young people of all ages and abilities, and enthusiasm to share your knowledge of how meaningful an engineering career can be.
Introducing young people to engineering is a rewarding experience and can contribute to your valuable continuing professional development (CPD). If you’re concerned about your employer supporting your involvement in this activity, we may be able to help.
The amount of time volunteered is entirely up to you and there are two roles with different levels of commitment available:
