Managing your Office 365 account

How do I log into Office 365?  

Logging in couldn't be more simple.  Simply visit https://portal.office.com and log in with your IET issued e-mail address and temporary password. From here you will be able to access all of the online IET volunteer resources.

I already use Office 365, will the IET Office 365 account have an impact on this?

A person can have multiple work, personal or school Office 365 accounts. However, you can only log in to one Office 365 account per browser.  If you want to access another Office 365 account at the same time then use multiple browsers or private browsing mode. Alternatively, you will need to sign out of the first account and then sign in to the second account.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and why is the IET using it?

MFA provides a second sign-in method for Office 365 to increase the security of the application. This second sign-in method can be a text message, a phone call or via a phone App. You will be asked to set up your 2-step verification for Office 365 when you first sign in to your account. You can update your settings at any time via 'My Account'.

How do I reset my forgotten password?

You can reset your password online as long as you provided an alternative email address, mobile number or answered the security questions when you registered. Alternatively, email our service centre volunteer365support@theiet.org.

Can I set up Office 365 on my mobile device?

Yes, you can set up Office Apps and email on a mobile device including Android, IOS or Windows.

How can I change my mobile phone number used for my Volunteer Office 365 2 step verification?

You can change your mobile phone number used for your Volunteer Office 365 2 step verification. It is important that you logon and change the number before you switch your phone number, otherwise you will be unable to log into the system and will need to email our helpdesk at volunteer365support@theiet.org to resolve the issue.

I have changed my mobile phone number and now can’t logon because my Volunteer Office 365 2 step authorisation code is going to my old number. What can I do?

You will need to contact the IET helpdesk at volunteer365support@theiet.org with your ietvolunteer.org email address details to resolve the issue.

What is my Profile in Office 365 and who can see it?

Your profile page in Office 365 is a great opportunity to let all other Office 365 users know more about you, and what you're working on right now.  You can add your photo, IET volunteer job summary, projects, skills, and education history to your profile to help others find you when they're looking for people with certain expertise. Remember to keep your information up-to-date. It is not possible to update your name or volunteer Office 365 email address details via 'My Profile'.

How do I add a profile picture with my Office 365 account?

You can add your profile photo to Office 365 from your computer or phone.

What happens if I change my name?

If you wish to change your name on your IET volunteer email account, to reflect a 'known as' name,  marriage or some other life event, email our service centre on volunteer365support@theiet.org. Once you receive a new IET volunteer e-mail address you will be able to log onto your email account with your new email address using your existing password. To ensure emails do not get lost your old email address will continue to exist and all emails to that address will be forwarded to the new email address.

I am having problems with the Multi-Factor Authentication, what can I do?

Microsoft provides some guidance on fixing common problems with multi-factor verification

Multi-factor authentication will not work with certain non-browser Apps and you will need to create an Office 365 App Password. This is to enable the App to connect to Office 365. For example, if you’re using Outlook 2016 or earlier, Apple Mail App, Skype for Business or any other third party client with Office 365, you’ll need to create an App Password.

How do I get the App Password?

You will need to create an App password for each application. This will need to be entered once instead of your regular Office 365 password when logging onto the application or mobile App.

Where can I get more help, support and training on Office 365?

The IET does not provide any specific training, however, Microsoft provides a comprehensive Office 365 Help and Training Centre that provides access to training, videos, tips, help and troubleshooting on the Office 365 suite of applications.
