The In-occupation Regime for Occupied Higher-Risk Buildings

This consultation relates to the policy proposals for the in-occupation phase of higher-risk buildings under Part Four of the Building Safety Act 2022.  There are 12 consultation sections in this area.

Following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in June 2017, the Government appointed Dame Judith Hackitt to lead an independent review of building regulations and fire safety.

The Government committed to implementing Dame Judith Hackitt’s recommendations for government and industry in her report, Building a safer future.  The aim is to drive the cultural and behaviours necessary to improve building safety.

The report led to the Building Safety Act which received Royal Assent in April 2022.  The Act will be supported by secondary legislation which will provide further detail to ensure a more stringent regulatory regime for high-rise residential and other in scope buildings.

The current consultation forms part of this process.

The IET Board of Trustees has decided to respond to the following consultation and will accept responses from IET members including Member, Fellow, Honorary Fellow, Student, and Associate. Please provide your membership number with your consultation response.
