Many areas of the engineering and technology sector were still growing: 78 per cent were recruiting graduates and 40 per cent cited business expansion or diversification as the reason for recruitment.

However, recruiting people with the right skills was proving hard. Senior engineers were most in demand with more than 50 per cent of respondents reporting problems recruiting them. The majority also cited a lack of suitably qualified candidates leading to recruitment problems.
