Supply of machinery safety regulations 2008
The supply of machinery (safety) regulations 1992 A health and safety briefing provided by the IET.
These regulations are concerned with the supply of safe products and are the UK implementation of the European Machinery Directive.
Despite many concerns of additional burdens on industry and enforcers their inception and application has been fairly smooth. The majority of products have changed little, but documentation has been considerably affected. It was thought that safety prosecutions would increase, but again this has not happened, demonstrating that most products on the market were already safe and continue to be so.
Risk analysis is important but if equipment can be related to a recognised product standard the task is simplified, the risk analysis having been carried out by the standards makers who include manufacturers.
