EngTalksXtra

EngTalks shine a light on the big engineering and technology topics of today. They are delivered by inspirational individuals, passionate about influencing and informing their peers and the next generation of engineers. The spirit of an EngTalk focuses on the future of engineering and technology and the power to inspire, inform and influence the global engineering community.

The core programme of EngTalks is managed by our in-house events team and held at IET London: Savoy Place.

EngTalksXtra is a volunteer endeavour and an extension of the EngTalks series which may be staged by any of our networks (Technical, YP, Student or Local), committee or member group.

Why run an EngTalksXtra?

EngTalks are the high-water mark for our public engagement programme and we’re extremely excited that our Local and Technical Networks now have the opportunity to bring the EngTalk brand and quality to your region.

We will provide full guidelines for organising your EngTalkXtra and support with topic generation, marketing and event management advice (where required).

EngTalksXtra format

EngTalkXtras have some traits which distinguish it from other events*

  • You will select a “host”, instead of a traditional chairperson.
  • Two main technology and/or engineering-driven talks, appearing in this order:
    • 10-15-minute Insight Talk
    • 45-minute main talk
    • Q&A
  • The talk is followed by an opportunity to network with other delegates.

* Any other event format such as a panel session, debate or single speaker should be fully outlined for consideration on the EngTalkXtra application

Purpose:

  • Your event must maintain the spirit of EngTalk events: focused on the future of engineering and technology and the power to inspire, inform and influence the global engineering community.
  • Individuals or teams applying to become an organiser ideally would have attended a core EngTalk event or at least viewed on IET.tv.
