The IET maintains a strong presence in the USA through our wide range of engineering, science and technology content. Like many countries, the United States has been subject to a wide variety of lockdown restrictions for the past year. This has led to many changes in the way that we operate and conduct business, adapting to ensure that we are able to continue to offer our customers access to our research database, journals, and eBooks.
In an effort to assist our customers as many universities and institutions were forced to quickly transition to remote working at the beginning of the pandemic, the IET was able to provide free access to our full eBooks collection on the IET Digital Library for a two-month period in order to ensure that researchers had barrier free access to crucial content needed to continue their work.
During this time our regional representatives, who are typically travelling to meet with customers across the country, have also needed to adapt to working in a virtual environment. They continue to meet with and support our customers – holding meetings virtually since in-person visits are not possible. Instead of attending industry conferences, they are staffing virtual booths. Like many of us during the pandemic, they’ve needed to learn how to make personal connections and maintain relationships virtually.
As we moved into 2021, the IET continued to deliver barrier free access to content by transitioning the entire IET Journals portfolio of more than 40 journals to fully gold Open Access in partnership with Wiley. We announced this partnership in June 2020, and the transition officially went into effect on 1 January 2021.
As well as publishing current research Open Access, all articles published from 2013 are now freely available, making a vast body of published research widely accessible. This allows researchers and practitioners around the world immediate and free access to IET Journals content via the IET Research hub on the Wiley Online Library.
We don’t know when we’ll be travelling to visit customers or attend conferences in person again, but we look forward to reconnecting with our valued industry partners when it is safe to do so!
