If you were not allowed to wear shorts in hot weather whilst on site, what are your alternatives?

They could be sailors or Royal Marines.

So were they, like Scots, going commando or not?

Mind they are brickies so wearing skirts will get a bit of fresh air around their brains,

I bet no one has realised that the brickies wore their wives and girlfriends tights under their trousers back in the cold mid winter.

I think it needs some more punctuation, and perhaps a simple diagram to explain the number of pairs of tights, and how many builders have both a wife and a girlfriend, or indeed if some of these are the same, but for different brickies, or indeed if they share tights.

Tights and a dress would be far more obvious to a casual observer than tights under trousers, but there is one obvious problem.

Back in the 80's Bovis sent a memo around their housing sites banning dogs and chainsaws, the site management of today would go into melt down if faced with what went on back then, such as chippies cutting joists on the cavity walls with 30" chainsaws throwing saw dust down the cavity, while the dog sat on the scaffolding keeping an eye on things.

Percy Bilton homes sent out a memo around about the same time titled "Re carpenters hanging hardwood front doors with axes" that was another little gem that should have been framed, apparently not everyone accepts it is a traditional technique.
