That is the subtle difference between a fault the breaker can interrupt, and a fault it can not only interrupt but also remain for for further use.
That was an unfair test trying ot break 7kV DC would have meant the arc would never have extinguished as the contacts opened, so all that hot gas has to go somewhere, in this case outwards. ------------------------- regards Mike ![]() |

I agree - nothing like a fair test to put a.c.-only rated equipment through a d.c. test - it's far harder to extinguish a d.c. arc than an a.c. one.
(I'm not sure I agree with the poster's comments about HBC fuses either - fuses too have have much more difficulty breaking a d.c. current than a.c. - I suspect a HBC fuse in similar circumstances might be equally 'spectacular') - Andy. |

This guys name is Rodalco2007 hes a Dutchman now living in New Zealand he does lots of nice experiments like that. Fortunately he knows what hes doing as he works for the local DNO in his bit of NZ.
