IET are joining with ICE and Renewables Scotland to host a workshop which will focus on our transport system which presents one of the greatest challenges in decarbonisation.

Date and Time

21 February 2019 - 12:00-16:30

About this event

The IET is joining with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Renewables Scotland to host an afternoon conference in Glasgow which will focus on decarbonisation within our transport system.

With almost a quarter of carbon emissions coming from domestic and commercial transport, politicians have set out ambitious targets to reduce these levels of harmful gases. The Scottish Government is pledging to phase out new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2032, with the UK following in 2040. This policy, in response to both climate change and air quality concerns, brings issues of green transport and low-carbon mobility closer than ever to consumers and citizens.

Taking place on 21 February in central Glasgow, this short conference will ask some key questions as to how we deliver this policy, such as:

  • How do we ensure that our electricity infrastructure networks are able to cope with what could be a sharp and unpredictable take-up pattern and additional strain on local networks?
  • Can our EV revolution and other low carbon options actually help to introduce new flexibility options into the energy system?
  • Which of the various actors involved should underpin this change with the necessary investment?
  • How do we maximise the opportunity in transport to support wider low-carbon ambitions?

This event is open to members of Scottish Renewables, ICE and the IET and will be of interest to a range of people from operators of energy assets and electricity networks to those working in transport, infrastructure and smart technology.
