Why don’t I have full access to the functionality on Career Manager?

You need to be a member of the IET to enjoy all the functionality Career Manager has to offer. If you’re already a member but don’t have full access, you may need to link your membership number to your web login. Send an email to careermanager@theiet.org to set this up.

How can I update my personal details on Career Manager?

Career Manager is linked to your MyIET account so your personal information will be automatically populated. You can change your contact details in Career Manager but if your personal information (title, name, date of birth or post-nominals) are wrong, you’ll need to contact the membership team.

How is applying for professional registration on Career Manager different from the offline process?

It’s the same process but all the assessment and verification is carried out online. However, applications via Career Manager can be made at a considerable discount. Check our fees page for more information

What’s a Professional Registration Self-Assessment?

It’s a feature within the Career Manager tool that helps you determine how ready you are to apply for professional registration, as part of your IPD. You can record evidence against the UK-SPEC or ICTTech professional registration frameworks and use this to set your activity to reach your goals.

Why isn’t my Career Manager Professional Registration Assessment included as part of my application?

The Professional Registration Assessment is part of IPD and a different process to applying for professional registration, which is based on your employment responsibilities and personal achievements. You can include your Professional Registration Assessment to support your application, but you’ll still need to complete the application form in full. Once your assessment is verified in Career Manager, it will need to be exported and uploaded alongside your application to the ‘Supporting Document’ area.

Can I use Career Manager to just record my CPD?

Absolutely. You can record your CPD in five simple steps:

  1. Log in to Career Manager and choose CPD from the Quick Launch Tool on the right-hand side.
  2. Select Record my CPD activities.
  3. Add a folder to categories your activities – for example, ‘2017 CPD’.
  4. Click Add CPD activity and enter the details.
  5. Then, click Reflection and enter your thoughts.

I’m supporting a colleague’s application for professional registration but my guest ticket is invalid – can the IET send me a new one?

We can’t access Career Manager records so your colleague will need to generate a new guest ticket by going to the verification section where they added your details initially. Then they should choose Invalidate Guest Ticket which will automatically generate a new link which they can send you. Guest tickets are valid for 28 days so make sure you enter all your details before it expires.

Where do I record my volunteering experience?

If you’re applying for professional registration or generating a CV, the best place to record your volunteering experience is under employment so it shows on your reports. If you’re already professionally registered and are recording your CPD, log it as an activity so you can record hours and reflection against it.

How do I send a copy of my Career Manager professional registration application to a Professional Registration Advisor (PRA)?

Make sure you’ve filled in all the mandatory items on the registration checklist and then export an MS Word copy or PDF of your application using the Preview Draft Registration Application link. You can find a local PRA by entering your postcode on the Find a Professional Registration Advisor page.

I haven’t consulted a Professional Registration Advisor but this is a mandatory field in the checklist – how do I progress my application?

We really recommend that you speak to a Professional Registration Advisor before you submit your application, but you can still go ahead by choosing ‘No’ in response to the ‘Have you spoken to a PRA?’ question.

I’ve uploaded my supporting documents for my professional registration application but they aren’t being checked off the checklist, why is this?

Make sure you’ve marked each document as current so they can be included in your application pack and checked off the checklist. You can only upload one file per file type so if you have more than one document for each file type, you’ll need to include them in the same file.
