I am Professional Registration. You may have heard of me when you were completing your studies at university. You may have seen my letters next to your colleague’s names or just heard of me through the grapevine.
I am relevant to engineers and technicians working in all sectors and help you demonstrate that you have reached an internationally recognised standard of engineering competence.
Many people view the achievement of professional registration as a key milestone in their career. They also find that I can make them more valuable to employers.
I have a variety of categories: Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng), Engineering Technician (EngTech) and ICT Technician (ICTTech). Each has its own set of requirements so find out which one is right for you.
I’ve heard that people put off applying for me because they think I’m too complicated to achieve. I get it. The thought of working full time and trying to demonstrate your competence can be a lot.
That’s why I’ve put together some Professional Registration myths to help you see that I don’t have to be another chore for you to do. In fact, you can probably demonstrate a lot of what I need already.
It’s true, that you will need to send things for assessment, but I have made it easy for you with my online system, Career Manager. Here, you can add your evidence to show your competence according to my requirements and then submit your application for review. But don’t worry about what you need to include as I have plenty of top tips and how-to guides to help you along the way.
I will also put you in touch with a Professional Registration Advisor (PRA) who will help you with your application and review it before it is seen by the assessors. They are top volunteers and know me inside out, so please use their experience! If applying for IEng or CEng, you will also be invited to an interview, where you will complete a short presentation. Again, your PRA will help you with this.
Once your application has gone through a final peer review, you’ll be told whether or not you are now a Professionally Registered engineer or technician.
If you aren’t quite ready to start your application, a good tip is to think about the category you want to apply for and start uploading your evidence to Career Manager. It will save you time when you do come to apply and will also be a nice, big bank of evidence already done!
Your future self will thank you.
I don’t mean to boast but my key benefits include:
So, as you can see, I am a pretty big deal!
My price varies, so please look at my fees page. However you will need to be a member first because not only will all my friends – EngX, Professional Development to name but a few – be able to help you with your application and career in general, you’ll also be a part of a thriving network of people from across the globe!
A top tip (because I quite like you), apply via Career Manager as it’s cheaper and more sustainable for our planet, so it’s a win-win!
I am always happy to answer your questions, just email me at profreginfo@theiet.org.
