Support for engineers and technicians throughout their Army career from apprenticeship through to service leavers from the IET.
Becoming professionally registered shows your peers and employers that you have demonstrated professional competence; it is an important milestone for any engineer or technologist. The IET is licensed by the Engineering Council to award the professional engineering qualifications defined in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) and the Information and Communications Technology Technician standard (ICTTech).
There are two routes to professional registration for armed force personnel. The IET has mapped out certain job roles and career pathways to the requirements for professional registration, resulting in a Special Registration Agreement (SRA). To find the eligibility criteria for your branch, please see below:
Currently there are no requirements for re-assessment once professional registration has been granted, and you will remain on the Engineering Council register whilst you remain a member of a licensed body. Joining the register confirms your commitment to both the Engineering Council’s professional ethics (comprising Guidelines for Institution's Codes of Conduct) and the IET Rules of Conduct and your obligation to remain professionally competent through continued professional development (CPD).
You will need to become a member of the IET before applying for professional registration. For more information please visit the Armed Forces IET Membership page.
IET membership provides you with a professional home for life. It allows you to engage with the IET global engineering and technology community and access essential products and services.
