Job Summary

To support the Indian operations, with a particular focus on member relations and communities, ensuring that robust processes are in place and that staff have the appropriate knowledge and training to carry out their roles.

To oversee the recruitment of relevant key  members of the Indian team and, where relevant, provide an appropriate induction to the IET.

This role is a six month secondment and comes with the responsibility and authority to carry out the following tasks.

Main Duties and Responsibilities  (Not necessarily in priority order)

Management of staff

  • Temporarily manage the membership relations team (until this position has been recruited)
  • Identify training needs for existing staff and work with Country Head and International Operations team to address this
  • Oversee the recruitment of a permanent Membership Operations Manager, Community Relationship Manager and Membership Retention Manager
  • Provide induction for new recruits and arrange appropriate training
  • Encourage team to develop effective working relationships with their UK (single) points of contact


  • Oversee the staff who are temporarily managing the Indian Local Networks (until Community Relationship Manager is in place)
  • Once recruited, work with Community Relationship Manager to ensure that all Local Networks produce robust business plans and the plans are submitted on time and in the correct format to all relevant stakeholders
  • Review group member community activities within Academic Affiliates, Corporate Partners, and help Account Managers to develop a comprehensive annual engagement program, that is both cost effective and produces measurable outcomes.
  • Work with the Professional Registration Manager to create a Volunteer Support Program which will support PR activity and attracts sufficient qualified local volunteers to meet Professional Registration and Volunteer KPI’s in India
  • Attend Local Network committee meetings to understand their challenges and requirements
  • Ensure that a clear plan is in place to achieve target number of new Local Networks in 2013
  • Attend South Asia Community Committee meetings where appropriate


  • Oversee the implementation of local fulfillment of member welcome kits, ensuring that the process is clearly documented and articulated to all stakeholders
  • Support membership retention manager in implementing a robust and efficient retention process (including the chasing of late payers and lapsers)
  • Review customer service process (including telephone based customer service) and provide feedback and suggested improvements to Country Head

General duties

  • Ensure that all operating processes and procedures are correctly documented and staff trained accordingly
  • Provide relevant reports (as requested) to Head of International Operations
  • Be a full and active member of the Bangalore Office team and carry out additional duties consistent with the overall purpose of the role and smooth running of the office, as directed by the Head of International Operations
  • Be familiar and comply with the operating procedures, compliance procedures, the Bangalore office employee handbook, health and safety and fire policies for the organisation, which may be amended from time to time. To attend regular training updates in these areas when required

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal  with people at all levels
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, work under pressure, use initiative and meet strict deadlines

    • Working in India or with an Indian operation
    • Operations management

    • Staff recruitment
    • Working with volunteers in a membership based organisation
  • Ability to take a flexible approach to work and to work with colleagues based in remote locations
  • Pro-active and persistent in initiating ideas and solving problems  
  • Good level of IT literacy
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic who can work independently if necessary, willing to work flexible hours and travel/stay away from home when required


  • An interest or involvement in the Science, Engineering and Technology sector
  • Batchelor level degree
