VADAR

Who can access data?

Community committees are the first to receive access to data for their communities.

Access to member data will help committees to

  • analyse the profile of members in their area
  • devise event programmes tailored to meet the needs of that audience
  • communicate directly with individuals or groups of members without having to rely on staff.

Community committees can nominate one individual to be authorised to download data and be responsible for data handling. The Authorised Volunteer will also maintain an overview of all communications being sent out by the committee.

By limiting access to one nominated volunteer from each committee the IET is able to:

  • Ensure that one person has responsibility for ensuring data is handled securely and for the purpose for which it was provided by the data subject
  • Ensure that one person has the overview of the type and frequency of communications that are sent by the committee to members in the constituency
  • Provide training and support to facilitate compliance with the DPA
  • Ensure changes to the interface, policies or guidelines can be communicated effectively

What data is available?

Authorised Volunteers are able to obtain counts of members in their Community using the following criteria:

  • total number of members in the constituency
  • number of members by membership categories eg Student, Associate, Member or Fellow
  • number of members by professional registration eg CEng, IEng and ICTTech;

In addition, data counts can be filtered in various ways, for example:

  • members within a particular age group
  • members in a specific membership category
  • members with a specific professional registration qualification

The VADAR interface also provides contact information for Local Network and Technical & Professional Network committees making it easy to contact other IET communities and individual volunteers.

To get access to data, Network Committees need to nominate a member of the committee to become an Authorised Volunteer and contact the community operations team to get set up.

In addition, network committees can request the data from the Community Operations team community-operations@theiet.org.

Through the links on this page, you will find more information about using IET data, nominating an Authorised Volunteer, Data Protection and other relevant policies and procedures, and using the IET’s email management system (MessageFocus) to send communications to members in your area.
