Primary focus

The IET accredits over 130 Professional Development Schemes within engineering organisations across the UK and abroad. Schemes should enable Graduate Engineers to acquire the required level of competence for professional registration. This may be as a Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, Engineering Technician or ICT Technician. You will work closely with IET Accreditation Staff and other Assessment Team members on accreditation visits to assess the standard and content of these Schemes.

Time commitment

Minimum 5 days a year (typically this includes 1 training day, 2 full day accreditation visits, 1 days prep and post visit work and approximately 1-2 hours a month participation in discussion forum)

Duties and responsibilities

  • Participate in a minimum of two accreditation visits a year;
  • Support the visit process, contribute to written reports, approve monitoring plans;
  • Adhere to the IET’s rule of conduct.

Pre-requisites

Assessors must be a member of the IET and be professionally registered at CEng or IEng level. Assessors are also expected to have relevant experience, for example:

  • Professional development scheme operation or management;
  • Mentoring;
  • Knowledge of professional development/professional registration (e.g. competency assessment);
  • Business and/or engineering management.

Support / training provided

A one day Assessor Training Event will be held annually. You will be required to observe 1 -2 accreditation visits before becoming an Assessor
