Career Manager is a tool from the IET that allows members to register information relating to their personal development planning (PDP) and detail CV information as well as objectives and actions. It can also be used to assess against UK specific competence and other frameworks, helping you prepare for professional registration. It’s the go-to tool for structuring and planning your professional development!

Professional registration is an important milestone for any engineer or technologist. It establishes their proven knowledge, understanding and competence. In particular, registration shows your peers and employers that you have demonstrated a commitment to professional standards, and to developing and enhancing competence.

There are so many different disciplines within engineering and technology that sometimes it's hard to find experts in your field. Not anymore!
Each TPN is an online community [new window] of people studying or working in that particular field. There are 35 in total, with no limit as to how many you can join, and in every network you can find the latest news for that area, forums where you can interact, and details of events, courses and seminars. They provide a great opportunity to network, which in turn could lead to some new job opportunities.
You can also look up local networks in your region and attend workshops, technical visits, network and social events. Again, another great way to network with professionals in your area…

As a member you'll have access to over 70,000 books and journals in the IET’s Library and Archives. Based in London, you can visit in person, but also order books on loan via the Internet or telephone, and it doesn't matter where you are in the world; we'll post them out to you!
Stocked with company directories such as Kompass and daily broadsheets, the library has many books and magazines to help you get your career and job search back on track. Plus if you pop by, the IET library reading room is Wi-Fi enabled and gives members access to PCs so you can continue your research then and there.
