The Life Plan: 700 simple ways to change your life for the better

Do you want to make your life better? More successful, more productive, more healthy or simply more fulfilling?

Author: Robert Ashton
ISBN: 0273710214

Most of us do, but we don’t always know where to start. The answer is to change your life, for the better one step at a time. The Life Plan is for anyone who wants to get more out of life, in every part of their life. Health, wealth, career, relationships and much more. Each section is packed full of small steps, all specifically chosen to get you moving in the right direction quickly and easily. It is your personal and practical companion to greater happiness and success. Make a difference to your life, one step at a time.

The Life Plan is a great idea for a book, and isn’t just aimed at people that feel their life is a mess. More suitable for anyone who ever wondered how to make any aspect of their life a little better, the book is broken down into lots of little sections with lists broken down into 10s of things to make you think.

Perhaps success of some shape or form plays on your mind, or the issue that faces many of us; how to prioritise the time we never seem to have enough of. Then there’s how to get the ball rolling; what changes are ‘doable’ and how, and then sections dedicated to specific areas of our lives like stress, work, money, family and the home.

It comes across as a pick up and flick through book, but if you sit and start reading it, you’ll see it’s designed to keep you glued, which I did find frustrating. I liked the idea of being able to skim through to a section, read a list on something which is currently worrying you; say page 89’s 10 positive ways to manage your boss, and then put it down and walk away, focusing on that specific information. Instead each list has a conclusion which follows into the next list, making you want to continue reading.

This feels personally that it can lead to an information overload, and that people may feel a little overwhelmed with information and ideas, and so nothing productive comes of it. However, this may be a personal foible, and most definitely doesn’t mean this book isn’t worth picking up.

Instead you must simply keep in mind when you read the book through, that you should focus on a particular section, or read the book in its entirety and then return to certain sections as and when you feel the need to consider a change or improvement of a specific area of your life.

This book is great at reminding you of things you haven’t considered for a while, breaking things down into realistic goals, and giving you simple ideas of improving areas of your life that you’re not happy with. It’s almost as if it’s a guide to doing things we do every day but in a simpler way; therefore leading to more peace and contentment.

A useful tool to help you kick start yourself when in a lull, this is most definitely worth picking up and having a read, even if only to remind yourself that life isn’t that bad, and that you’re doing well. Almost everyone will come away feeling a little bit happier or in control after giving this a read…
