Skills competitions
If you are keen and excel in Engineering Skills you now have an opportunity to get involved in WorldSkills engineering competitions and a chance of becoming a top performer, competing in the World stage in Calgary, Canada 2009.
If you were born on or after 1 January 1987 keen and excel in Engineering Skills, WorldSkills UK competitions is a great opportunity to gain recognition, enhance your career, get you and your company noticed and if successful participate in the September 2009 World stage in Canada , why not enter one or more of the following competitions .
CNC Milling
Competitors will manually programme and produce two 6 hour milling projects manufactured to a high standard both dimensionally and with regard to surface finish, using either Fanuc, Heidenhain or Siemens programming. Each project will be machined on two faces and include such feature as external contour, milling channels, hollow-out bore, tapped holes, reamed holes and pocket milling.
CNC Turning
Competitors will produce two turned components to follow the guidelines above but the features will include turned diameters, undercuts, angles, screw threads and machined profiles.

Mechatronics
The competition is for technicians working or studying in the manufacturing and automation industry. The Mechatronics competition is based on the standards attained by trainees who have reached NVQ level 3 and working towards and HND or higher. Competitors must be born on or after 1 January 1984 to compete in this competition.

Manufacturing
The manufacturing competition is designed for teams of three competitors with collective expertise in CNC machining and programme generation, conventional machining, electronic/electrical assembly, mechanical assembly and joining and the subsequent commissioning of an electro-mechanical product. Teams must deliver the most cost-effective compliant solution to the challenge set. Competitors must be born on or after 1 January 1984 to compete in this competition.

Electronics
The competition is for technicians working or studying in the electronics industry. The electronics competition is based on the standards attained by trainees who have reached NVQ level 3, HNC and working towards an HND they must have an awareness of the IPC-610-00D Electronics Assembly Standard
