As an apprentice a bright future awaits you, and the IET is here to help. Becoming a member is your first step towards getting ahead and boosting your career.

We’re here to support, guide and keep our members one step ahead in this fast-paced profession. If you’re serious about your career you’ll want to take advantage of our services; enhancing your potential and giving you a major advantage in the job market.

Apart from being a great resource during your apprenticeship (see below) becoming a member is also an investment in your future as we can provide opportunities for you to pursue your career with one of our 1700 business partners that include Siemens, BAE Systems and Orange.

There’s lots of ways that becoming a member can help you throughout your apprenticeship, including the following:

Magazines – As well as getting our regular Engineering and Technology magazine, you also get our termly Student and Young Professional magazine and can opt in to receive the fun and fearless Flipside magazine. These mags are packed with features, news, job adverts and advice, so a real help to those starting out in the industry.

The Library & Archives – The IET is excellent for finding that extra bit of information that will will your apprenticeship results. As a member you’ll have access to over 70,000 books and journals. Based in London, you can visit in person, but also order books on loan via the Internet or telephone, and it doesn’t matter where you are in the world; we’ll post them out to you!

IET.tv – Ever wanted an internet TV station dedicated to engineering and technology programmes? Divided into searchable channels, you can watch, interact and contribute to live or archived broadcasts streamed across the web.

Online Communities/ Technical and Professional Networks – There are so many different disciplines within engineering and technology that sometimes its hard to find experts in your field. Not anymore!

Each TPN is an online community of people studying or working around the work in that particular field. There are 35 in total, with no limit as to how many you can join, and in every network you can find the latest news for that area, forums where you can interact, and details of events, courses and seminars.

In addition to these regular membership offerings, Apprentice members also get some other perks. These include competitions including the chance to win a trip around the world, software discounts, and travel awards and bursaries that you can apply for.

Add to that the support IET members get in terms of networking events, career support, Professional Development courses and Professional Registration, and well, you can see it’s the best quid a month you’ll ever spend!
