What should I look for in an employer?
I am looking for employment but am not sure what I should be looking for in a company.
What you look for in an employer depends very much on the sort of role or apprenticeship you’re looking for, the products and technologies that you are interested in and the career path you want to follow.
However, as a general rule you should find out about the company’s approach to training and development and the opportunities that will be available to you during your apprenticeship as well as following completion of the scheme.
The size and location of the company is very much down to personal choice but if you do chose an employer who is based some distance away, you should give consideration to the cost of travel and whether this is something you would be willing to do every day.
Regardless of the type of company you join, it is important that you gain enough information at the interview stage to make an informed decision.
Remember that when you attend an interview, it is not only a chance for the company to consider whether you are the right person for the role, but for you to consider whether it is right for you too.
