Sustainable Manufacturing

The Design & Production Sector will seek to highlight cross sector best practice and key innovations for the reduction in resource usage and waste throughout the whole supply chain; fundamentally ensuring that what we do in the short term does not undermine the possibilities in the long term.

With mounting concerns about global warming and a wider sense that industry must become increasingly socially responsible about its use of non-renewable resources and degradation of the environment, sustainable products and production methods are now one of the top priorities in design and production. These concerns are also growing with regards to financial, environmental and social pressures on industry. Sustainable manufacturing offers opportunities to reduce costs and open up new markets, presenting a means by which we can conserve vital resources and prevent environmental damage; and challenging us to better care for our employees and support wider society. Companies that adopt these principles typically see reductions in production costs and benefits to their reputation.
