British Business Embassy days - ICT summit

Speakers included business leaders from leading technology companies such as BT, Intel, Thomson Reuters, ARM, Samsung Electronic UK and Zeebox.

The ICT Summit Summary summarises speakers’ views on:

• The qualities that make the UK a great place for ICT, such as government support and light administration, the innovative climate and quality of universities, the passionate workforce and sophisticated consumers;

• Trends enabled by technology, from the fusion of product and technology, to the use of technology in driving the creativity process; from the UK’s leading position in online sales, to the growth of the business-to-business marketing for technology;
• Ways in which technology is both being made easier to use and making life easier – from the greening of energy usage, to growing convergence between technology devices;
• Opportunities created for social media and new marketing, from the opportunities for “tweet breaks” during TV advertisements, when consumers check their phones; to the speed of fibre roll out;
• The need for television to be all about interaction – 56-inch smart phones.

The UK is Europe’s leading market for software and IT services with a market value of €61 billion in 2011.
