British Business Embassy days

The IET collaborated with UK Trade & Investment to showcase The British Business Embassy during the 2012 Olympic Games. The British Business Embassy formed the centrepiece of the international business legacy of the London 2012 Games and was attended by over 4,000 Government Ministers, business leaders and policy makers from the UK and around the world.

International trade and inward investment deals worth £11 billion are expected to be generated as a result of London 2012 and the events held at the British Business Embassy that was created at Lancaster House during the Olympics and Paralympics, as set out in the Olympic Boost for UK Economy press notice.

UK and international companies are continuing to profit from partnerships formed by businesses attending the Global Investment Conference and the 17 Global Business Summits held at the British Business Embassy, and from the insights shared during the events. In addition, UKTI is brokering trade and high value overseas opportunities and working to attract significant inward investment to the UK.

During the 18 days of the British Business Embassy, the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Chancellor, Business Secretary, Trade and Investment Minister, Foreign Secretary and over 30 other ministers welcomed around 4,000 business leaders and global figures to Lancaster House in the largest and most ambitious set of trade and investment events ever held in the UK.

The British Business Embassy was partnered by BT, Jaguar Land Rover and Samsung and supported by Allied Vehicles, Beko and Bibendum.

The events showcased the best of British business, design and technology to delegates and, through widespread press coverage, to the world. Businesses and Governments exchanged views and ideas, discussed challenges and developed strong global partnerships. As a result, we expect businesses taking part to generate £1 billion of extra sales.

Going forward, UK and international businesses seeking opportunities to export overseas or invest in the UK can benefit both from the insights shared during the events and from the UK Government’s ongoing work to support the generation of £11 billion in business benefits. The latter includes UKTI’s export support, inward investment services and, through Host2Host, help for UK companies seeking contracts for the delivery of international sporting events.
