Who can visit the library?

IET members and other UK engineering institution members, such as Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) members, may borrow publications that are available for loan.
The library is open to all members of the general public. Non-members can use our facilities for reference purposes only.

Who can visit the archives?

The Archives are open to members of the IET, academic researchers and any member of the public with a genuine research topic. If you would like to visit please contact us first to make an appointment as researcher space is limited. Further information on using the archives.

Library facilities

• Bookshop open 9am - 4.45pm to purchase IET publications and some memorabilia. Members get a 35% discount on books;
• Tours of the library and archives are available on request;
• Library only membership is available for a small annual fee to access all library services, including e-books and e-journals remote access via the Virtual Library;
• Free WiFi access;
• High-speed Internet terminals for browsing the web and searching the library online catalogue;
• Daily newspapers on display;
• Helpful library staff at the enquiry desk to provide assistance with your enquiry or research;
• Coin-operated self-service photocopier. 10p per A4 sheet, 20p per A3 sheet. Black and white copies only available;
• Access to electronic resources such as INSPEC, IEEExplore, Virtual Library, IET Digital Library, British Standards online.
