This two day conference saw a panel of invited speakers address the key issues and challenges in delivering the smart grid concept. The Proceedings features 14 Powerpoint presentations from the panel of speakers.

The UK power network is facing significant challenges including:

• meeting the demands of the 2020 carbon targets;
• increasing penetration of renewable sources;
• rising to competitive market changes.

Significant improvements must be made to the network, allowing increased visibility of the system, stimulating energy products that cut consumption, and the creation of a holistic scalable communications strategy.

This conference focussed on what the latest developments, looking at technology adoption, its deployments and pilot schemes being undertaken.
