Books

Looking for new perspectives and technical developments? IET books in print and e-Book format cover all the key areas of engineering and technology.

For further information about IET e-Books and packages, contact us.

Members are entitled to a 35 per cent discount on books published by the IET (Note: discount applies to one copy per title only and currently only to the printed format). This includes the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) which is the national standard in the UK and many other countries for the safety of electrical installations.

All content relating to the IET Wiring Regulations, including details of books and other publications, is now available on a dedicated IET website for the electrical industry.

Multicore Simulation of Power System Transients

Multicore Simulation of Power System Transients

This book shows how to partition and parallelise the simulation of power system transients on a multicore desktop PC and how to formulate power systems using mesh and nodal methods. To provide a reference on how fast a multicore solver can be, parallel simulation runtimes are compared against MATLAB/Simulink.

Control-Based Operating System Design

Control-Based Operating System Design

Describing the application of system- and control-theoretical methods to the design of computer operating system components, this book argues that computer operating system components should be conceived from the outset as controllers, synthesised and assessed in the system-theoretical world of dynamic models, and then realised as control algorithms.

Radar Techniques Using Array Antennas, 2nd Edition

Radar Techniques Using Array Antennas, 2nd Edition

The 2nd edition of Radar Techniques Using Array Antennas is a thorough introduction to the possibilities of radar technology based on electronic steerable and active array antennas. This new edition has been fully updated and provides many valuable lessons for designers of future high standard multifunction radar systems for military and civil applications

Sea Clutter: Scattering, the K Distribution and Radar Performance, 2nd Edition

Sea Clutter: Scattering, the K Distribution and Radar Performance, 2nd Edition

This fully revised and updated second edition brings together extensive new material on radar techniques to provide an authoritative account of our current understanding of radar sea clutter. Organised into four parts; Empirical measurements and modelling, Detection Processing, Physical Modelling and K distribution theory and application, this 2nd Edition is invaluable to both specialist radar engineers and academic researchers and will be of considerable interest to the wider applied physics and mathematics communities.

Modelling Distributed Energy Resources in Energy Service Networks

Modelling Distributed Energy Resources in Energy Service Networks

Focuses on modelling two key infrastructures (natural gas and electrical) in urban energy systems with embedded technologies (cogeneration and electric vehicles) to optimise the operation of natural gas and electrical infrastructures under the presence of distributed energy resources.

Nonlinear and adaptive control

Nonlinear and Adaptive Control Systems

This new book treats nonlinear control and adaptive control in a unified framework, presenting the major results at a moderate mathematical level. Nonlinear and Adaptive Control Solutions will be of interest to both MSc students in engineering disciplines relating to dynamic modelling and control, including electrical and electronic engineering, aerospace engineering, and chemical engineering, as well as researchers and engineers working on nonlinear and adaptive control.

Why publish with the IET?

The IET offers a complete professional service in book publishing including: competitive royalties, excellent author support, a speedy and flexible production process including redrawing facilities, and dynamic sales and marketing operation in the UK and the USA. We publish by a single author, multiple authors and edited collections.

Compelling propositions

A key benefit of publishing with the IET is that the profits made are returned to the profession through the IET's other activities. In addition, the status of the IET enables greater flexibility and a more imaginative commissioning policy than some of our competitors. An established Editorial Team review proposals and commission new books, advise on their content and assists authors in developing their work and ideas. All books are intended for global readership and are extremely highly rated and respected. If you would like to submit an idea or a proposal please contact Paul Deards, Commissioning Editor, at books@theiet.org

Commissioning and author support

We appreciate that professionals have considerable demands on their time, and hence we are flexible with our timetables for manuscript preparation; at the outset of a project we aim to agree on a realistic schedule. From the initial proposal to the submission of the final manuscript, authors receive support and advice from the Commissioning Editor. This includes constructive reviews of the text as it develops to provide feedback and suggestion.

Sales and marketing

IET books are marketed and sold internationally via the IET itself in the UK, our subsidiary in New Jersey, USA, international distributors and library supply companies and, of course, via the regular book trade. As the IET is a major conference and event organiser and sponsor in its field, there are many opportunities to display books at key conferences and exhibitions internationally. Additionally, all books are promoted through IET publications, our catalogues, individual title information sheets, press reviews and on the Internet. We are normally very happy to consider any suggestions authors might have for marketing their book.

The production process

The production of the book from final manuscript to publication is overseen by the Production Manager. We offer a fast and efficient service, and will be pleased to discuss options available and advise authors as required. The IET offers facilities, where required, for redrawing figures and can handle text in most formats.

On receipt of an accepted manuscript, the publisher will arrange for the pages to be thoroughly copyedited and proof-read. The manuscript will then be typeset and the final page proofs checked by the author. Finally, the manuscript is sent to the printer for reproduction, printing, binding and delivery. The description of the book provided by authors is used as the basis of the copy for the cover or jacket. Suggestions from authors for suitable cover illustrations are therefore always welcome.

Contribute to the future. Make your mark in your field. Return something to the profession. Write a book with IET Publishing.
