About Insight Letters

The key goal of Electronics Letters has always been to facilitate the exchange of news of the most exciting developments between researchers across the full spectrum of electronics and electrical engineering. Since inception, Electronics Letters has witnessed a transformation of its subject matter, far beyond that originally imagined. Now, following its fortieth anniversary, Electronics Letters is embracing the challenges of the future with the exciting concept of Insight Letters.

Written by renowned experts, Insight Letters are intended to provide authors with a platform to communicate to an expert readership, visionary and speculative ideas in new and emerging areas within the cross-disciplinary fields of science and technology. Looking over the horizon, each Insight Letter will provide an expert’s perspective and forecast of where the current technology is leading and what the challenges facing the future generation of engineers might be. Each letter will be written to be thought provoking and to generate discussion within the wider community and will receive recognition within Electronics Letters in a manner similar to keynote presentations and invited papers.

An Insight Letter might focus on, for example:

  • An emerging area of science and technology where the applications have yet to be developed.
  • The limitations and future of existing technology.
  • A topical issue where science and technology may hold future solutions.

Insight Letters have so far been by invitation and we will be inviting more in 2008. We would therefore welcome any suggestions of people, renowned in their field, who you think may be interested in writing an authoritative, speculative letter on the challenges facing the future generation of engineers. We will also consider unsolicited Insight Letters, but please first send a summary to the editorial office at eletters@theiet.org containing:

  • An overview of the topic to be contained within the Insight Letter and the visionary or speculative aspects that it will contain.
  • An indication of the depth of the proposed paper and how it will be arranged.
  • An explanation of why the paper would be suitable as publication as an Insight Letter.
  • A brief biography of the author(s).
