S798 - Information Assurance Strategy

Description

Information assurance strategy: IET comments to the Government Chief Scientific Advisor.

Abstract

Information assurance (IA) needs to be tackled on three levels. Firstly, the Information Commissioner’s organisation should be funded separately from the Government of the day and thus be seen to be clearly independent of the Executive. Secondly, the National IA Strategy recognises the need for stronger IA standards and delivery capabilities, but it does not acknowledge the magnitude of the task and the need for sustained strategic action. Thirdly, everyone needs to have a basic understanding of the core principles of IA in the information age. Embedding an IA culture needs to be started in our schools and colleges well before employment age.
