S794 - Inquiry on Renewable Energy Generation Technologies

Description

Inquiry on renewable energy generation technologies: IET comments to the House of Commons Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Committee.

Abstract

The IET submitted written evidence to the Science and Technology Committee inquiry in July 2007. This brief addendum addresses the new questions. Developing a diverse portfolio of renewable energy technologies is a crucial component of a sustainable energy policy. In broad terms it is proposed that the Government should be more selective in setting priorities and allocating funding for early stage research; be more successful at leveraging support for costly demonstration and commercialisation; take advantage of the potential for international partnerships; and pre-emptively identify and address barriers to deployment, including the supply of technical skills.
