S793 - Improving Outcomes for Health and Safety

Description

Consultation on Improving outcomes from health and safety: IET comments to the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR).

Abstract

In considering health and safety regulation in the UK, a clear distinction must be made between the requirements and expectations of SMEs and those of larger companies. Smaller companies often do not have the necessary expertise to identify health and safety risks, nor are they often fully familiar with the requirements placed upon them. What is required is competent and cost-effective advice which spells out what they are expected to do and what their responsibilities are. Whilst this review is welcome, there should be no resulting action that degrades the current health and safety provisions in the UK.
