S779 - Digital Dividend Review consultation

Description

Digital Dividend Review consultation: IET comments to the Office of Communications (Ofcom).

Abstract The IET agrees with Ofcom’s proposals for the release of the digital dividend and has fairly portrayed the constraints that will apply to the available UHF spectrum. The retention of part(s) of the released UHF spectrum to be available for (defined term) low power proof of concept/service licensed trials by innovators is supported. The IET also supports the development of a European Common Proposal for a primary mobile service allocation in the UHF spectrum. However, it is surprising that the review is silent on a possible use of the released spectrum, in part, for digital audio broadcasting if a candidate service provider applied at auction.
