Description
Abstract The IET is very supportive of the continuing efforts to assess and promote the potential benefits of distributed generation (DG) in the context of the stated goals of UK energy policy. A functioning market framework that properly reflects carbon costs at all consumer levels will provide the best mechanism for identifying and exploiting DG opportunities. Furthermore, support for R&D, demonstration and deployment will be needed to bring less mature technologies into the market. Technical skills are a crucial factor in the delivery of DG, which should be monitored carefully in order to avoid setbacks in implementation. It is best to encourage the evolution of a network that generators of all size can access, rather than perpetuate the divide between public and private networks.
