Description
Consultation on Policy framework for new nuclear build: Institution of Engineering and Technology comments to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Abstract The proposal to adopt a hierarchical approach to planning and licensing for new nuclear power generation is strongly supported. Decoupling national strategic issues and generic technical considerations from local concerns has the potential to make the process more efficient and more compatible with the present regulatory and commercial framework for the power sector. In order to be effective, the new policy framework for nuclear power must be established on a basis of public trust. It is therefore imperative that openness and transparency are prioritised throughout the policy process.
