Medium Term Strategy for Catapult Centres: Hauser Review Call for Evidence – IET comments to the Dept for Business Innovation & Skills.
An independent review by Herman Hauser is looking into the network of catapult centres in the UK and identifying how they can be used to their full potential to benefit the economy.
The IET has responded that in general the catapult centres are progressing well, in particular the High Value Manufacturing Catapult and the Satellite Applications Catapult. They are in the early stages compared to the Fraunhofer Institutes in Germany and currently lack the scale and size to meet the challenge of driving innovation across the UK economy. Despite the strong research and university sector in the UK, there is not a sufficiently strong technology transfer infrastructure to link this systematically to business users.
