IET comments to the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment.
In response to the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment’s consultation on the suitability of GCSEs and GCEs for Northern Ireland’s needs the IET made a submission drafted by the Engineering Policy Group Northern Ireland (EPGNI). The response drew attention to the fact that the current GCSEs and GCEs too often did not prepare students with the requisite skills for work, and that greater input from academia and industry was need in defining course curriculums. Greater attention to lower end achievers educational needs was identified, as was the need for consistency between boards on course content. Uniformity of school permissions regarding resits was proposed to give all candidates equal opportunity.
