S866 - Call for evidence on the OFGEM review

Call for evidence on the OFGEM review: IET comments to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

The electricity sector in the UK, in common with those elsewhere in the world, needs to tackle the triple challenge of moving to low carbon generation, whilst maintaining security of supply, and remaining as affordable as possible. There is a need to enable and facilitate investment at the scale needed in generation, networks and amongst users. Splitting policy between organisations should be avoided as increasing integration is likely to be needed. In-house technical competence must be available to advise on the increasingly complex issues. Step changes in the sector will require facilitation, leadership and co-ordination. It needs to be recognised that serious skills challenges lie ahead at both professional and craft levels.
