Description
Consultation on the Smart metering implementation programme: IET comments to the Office of Electricity and Gas Markets (Ofgem).
Abstract
The IET is strongly in favour of the introduction of smart metering in the UK and welcomes the sense of urgency now being devoted to this subject. However, there remain serious concerns at a fundamental level, particularly regarding cyber security aspects and the additional vulnerabilities that two-way connectivity will bring. There is also a need for a rigorous approach to a major business change project enabled by information and communication technologies (ICT) in order to avoid cost overruns.
