Sheila Gilheany is currently with the Institute of Physics in Ireland. She graduated in Physics from Queen’s University Belfast followed by a PhD in Astrophysics. She was the first female lecturer in Astronomy at the Armagh Planetarium and then moved to Dublin City University to take up the position of Director of the newly formed Irish Centre for Talented Youth – an organisation working with exceptionally able young people. After 11 years she moved to the Institute of Physics as Policy Officer and has a particular interest in science education matters.
