David Evans

David Evans has a long track record in developing policies and managing programmes to promote innovation and technology. As Director of Innovation in the Government Department responsible for innovation he prepared the Innovation Nation White Paper published in March 2008. He was also responsible for setting up the Technology Strategy Board as the UK’s leading government body to promote innovation and technology in business and was its first Chief Executive.

In his previous career in the Civil Service was responsible for preparing the first knowledge economy White Paper for the Labour Government and was also the DTI’s Finance Director. He has been a Board member of two Government Departments, a member of three Research Councils and was Deputy Chief Executive of the Government’s Small Business Service.

He is currently Senior Adviser Government Affairs for the Technology Strategy Board and a Board Member and Honorary Treasurer for the Science Council (which represents the interests of the UK’s learned scientific societies) a Board Member of the Advantage West Midlands Innovation and Technology Council and senior adviser to the Coventry University Innovation University Enterprise Network. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Imperial College Business School.

He has a doctorate in theoretical astrophysics and qualified as an accountant in 2007.

He is married with 4 grown up children.
