The first issue of the rapid-publication journal Healthcare Technology Letters (HTL) is now available to view online in the IET Digital Library. HTL is the latest addition to the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Letters series, joining Electronics Letters and Micro & Nano Letters.
Healthcare technology is a rapidly advancing, inherently interdisciplinary field and this new e-first journal has been designed to meet the needs of researchers working in this context. HTL focuses on the most recent advances within a wide scope of disciplines, encompassing biomedical engineering, and computer and information science for healthcare.
HTL’s first Editor-in-Chief, Professor Christopher James of the University of Warwick said, “This new initiative from the IET comes at an exciting time within healthcare technology, which has never before seen so many new developments in basic research as well as in the varied fields of application. HTL will provide a one-stop shop for researchers wanting to be kept abreast of the latest developments in this fast-changing field.”
The letters format allows for quick turnaround of succinct papers reporting novel technologies, applications and studies. That, coupled with peer-review, constructive feedback to authors, and rapid publication, should help to keep HTL at the cutting edge of high-quality research in its field. Open access options are also available that meet the requirements of all funding bodies.
Professor James is supported by an international editorial board with expertise covering a wide range of healthcare technologies and includes members with clinical backgrounds.
“Together we have a very strong team that will allow us to cover all the different directions in which healthcare technology might go,” said Professor James. “It is my firm intention that HTL becomes a resource for the medical industry and a way of keeping abreast of new ideas and developments. Moreover, it should be influencing policy makers at a global level, and providing timely information on an international scale.”
HTL is available online with e-first publication and four issues in its first year, on the IET Digital Library. The editorial team welcomes submissions from prospective authors, details of how to submit to HTL can be found on the website.
Professor James is Director of Warwick Engineering in Biomedicine, at the University of Warwick, which brings together the diverse biomedical engineering research of the university’s School of Engineering. His research activity centres on the development of biomedical signal and pattern processing techniques, as well as the use of technological innovations, to advance healthcare and promote wellbeing. Primarily, his interest lies in the field of neural engineering and in behaviour monitoring through unobtrusive measurements. He has published over 160 papers in neural engineering in varied biomedical engineering journals and served as a conference referee. He is an active figure in both the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). In 2012 he was awarded the IET Sir Monty Finniston Achievement Award for his work in the Biomedical Engineering field.
