Today, the IET announced that a report into future UK power lines will be published on 31st January 2012.
The report will analyse the whole life costs of installing new high voltage transmission circuits under the ground, under the sea and over ground.
Research and production of the report is being carried out by engineering consultancy Parsons Brinckerhoff, which is currently collating and assessing the broad range of data received from manufacturers, installers and operators.
In October 2010, at the request of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and at the instigation of the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) Chairman Sir Michael Pitt, an authoritative, independent report was commissioned into the comparative costs of installing new high voltage transmission circuits.
The published report will provide an authoritative, independent point of reference to inform the evaluation of the IPC into planning applications for new high voltage transmission connections or reinforcements.
Parsons Brinckerhoff is undertaking the study in association with Cable Consulting International. The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is providing quality assurance of the report.
The final report will be available from the IET website on 31st January 2012.
