Supporting TMIET and MIET applications

Guidance for individuals supporting TMIET or MIET applications.

In order to become a Member with designatory letters TMIET or MIET, each candidate is asked to provide the details of a supporter who can confirm they have achieved the required knowledge and understanding.

The supporter can be:

  • the candidate’s employer;
  • a member of the IET;
  • someone who knows the candidate in a work capacity.

As part of our audit procedures we carry out checks on the validity of applications for designatory letters. By choosing to support a candidate’s application for TMIET or MIET membership you may be asked to complete the supporter inquiry form.

The supporter inquiry form will ask you to provide information about the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The candidate should have a qualification in a science, engineering or technology related discipline or should be able to demonstrate that they have gained the relevant experience within a working environment.

If the candidate is applying for TMIET, please describe the current level and scope of the job in comparison with an experienced employee with formal technical qualifications and any specific responsibilities and aspects of the job which require technical knowledge and understanding of the underlying principles.

If the candidate is applying for MIET, please describe the current level and scope of the job in comparison with an experienced graduate employee and any specific responsibilities and aspects of the job which require graduate level input

The information you provide is for the use of the Membership Services department only and will be treated as strictly confidential.

For further information relating to IET membership categories, view the types of membership.

If you have any queries about supporting TMIET or MIET applications, please contact the IET.

If you are not already a member, why not join the IET and start enjoying the advantages of membership yourself?
