5. What does fast-track membership mean?

Fast-track membership means that as a Microsoft certified-professional, you can apply for IET membership with designatory letters without the need for someone to support your application. The IET accepts Microsoft certification as independent verification of your competence and qualifications making the application process easier for you to complete.

6. I am part-way through my Microsoft Certification - am I eligible for fast-track IET membership?

As you haven’t completed your Microsoft Certification yet, you will not be eligible to apply for IET membership with designatory letters without a supporter. However, you can still apply for fast-track membership now and then transfer your category of membership to designatory letters (at no extra cost) once you have completed it. 9. How do I apply and how long will it take for me to become a member?

You can apply online for membership. The online application form takes five minutes to complete. Once you have made your payment online, you will have instant access to the online member services. Approximately 14 days after this, we will post your membership welcome pack to you, which will contain your welcome letter stating your category of membership, your membership card and a sample of some of the magazines that you get each month as part of your membership.

To make it easier for you, the IET will verify your transcript online – you will need to set up an access code to enable people to view your transcript online. Please ensure that you provide us with your Microsoft certification ID and Access code on the online application form.

If you would prefer not to share your transcript online, please ensure that you download it from Microsoft and append it to the back of your CV.

Based on your skills and experience, you may be ready to apply for professional registration now, or you may need to work towards this through a professional development plan. As a member of the IET, we will support you as necessary in your professional development needs to help you become professionally registered.

The Engineering Council UK (ECUK) maintains the register of professional engineers and licenses the IET to assess applicants on its behalf. The professional registration categories are:
