Over the past couple of months the IET India team have been working on a new scholarships programme, a job fair, and the opening of a new office. Find out more below.
Students from India’s premier engineering institutes have swept the inaugural IET India Scholarships.
Suhas Vidhate of IIT Mumbai was declared winner in the general category and Siddha Ganju of NIT Himachal Pradesh emerged as winner of the women’s category. Unnat Jain of IIT Kanpur and Ankana Dhar of NIT Durgapur were the respective runners up.
Nearly 5,000 students applied, competing at a regional and then national level.
IET India hosted a special awards function to honour the scholarship winners.
Held on 23 August at FICCI auditorium in New Delhi, it was a fitting culmination to the hard work and determination that the students demonstrated across four gruelling rounds of competition.
The event was attended by over 300 people including students, faculty members and professionals.
Professor D P Agrawal, chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), was the chief guest and presented the winners with their IET scholarship trophies and certificates.
Mr V K Kanjlia, from the Central Board of Irrigation and Power, and Major General (Retd) R K Sanan, VSM, from the Institution of Engineers, India, were the guests of honour.
IET India’s first IET Advantage Job Fair was held on 21 and 22 September in Chennai, giving companies from relevant engineering disciplines and screened, high-calibre applicants the opportunity to interact.
The companies involved came from areas such as IT, manufacturing, telecoms, design, mechanical engineering and the computer sciences.
Over 1,200 students, graduates and young professionals from across the country applied to attend. They then participated in a three-step filtering process that included an online shortlisting, an aptitude test and a technical evaluation round.
The IET’s third office in India opened in Mumbai on 15 July.
